Cheetahs fans picked the 1997 Super 12 jersey as the best the franchise has ever seen.
The Free State Cheetahs jersey, worn in their one and only Super 12 tournament in 1997, won more than a quarter of the votes in the face of competition from the side’s 2006 and 2023-24 jerseys.
Western Province failed to make the Currie Cup top four in 1996 and were replaced by the Free State Cheetahs for the 1997 Super 12 competition.

The Cheetahs had a roller-coaster season, winning five of eleven games to finish seventh on the overall log before they joined forces with the Lions in 1998 to become the Cats.
