France head coach Fabien Galthie praised the players’ perseverance during challenging times following a bonus-point victory against Wales in the Six Nations on Sunday.

Thomas Ramos slotted 20 points as a fired-up France trounced the Welsh in a gripping 45-24 win in Cardiff.

Five tries from Gael Fickou, Man of the match Nolann Le Garrec, George-Henri Colombe, Romain Taofifenua and Maxime Lucu helped Les Bleus fire back after the previous round’s draw with Italy.

“We felt we took the upper hand in the last 20 minutes,” Galthie told reporters. “This team needs energy and confidence, they want to do well. We scored 45 points and we take the bonus [point]. We have to encourage these players.

SIX NATIONS: All to play for in final round

“We had to experience these difficult moments, the challenge against Italy, and understand why we were stuck like that. It was a difficult period but the players got through it with righteousness and honesty.

“When we have experienced what we have experienced, we want to savour every moment together.”

France finish their campaign against England in Lyon on Saturday, where victory will be another huge boost in confidence for the group.

“I have a lot of pride, I am very happy to have been able to participate in this great victory,” Colombe said. “We worked all week to achieve this result and had a very good game.

“But next weekend we will have to respond, too. We’re going to enjoy this evening before going back [home] to prepare for the match against England.”
