Wynberg kept the upsets coming in the 2024 school season by claiming a first victory over Paarl Boys High in 36 years on Saturday, while Paarl Gymnasium continued their winning run in Pretoria.

Flyhalf Yaqeen Ahmed slotted a penalty in the final play of the match to give Wynberg a historic 30-27 victory in Paarl.

It was Wynberg’s second victory over Paarl Boys High, with their only previous win coming in 1988.

In the second Premier Interschools match of the season, Paarl Gymnasium held on to beat Affies 20-19 in Pretoria.

A brace from wing Immanuel Prinsloo, along with 10 points from the boot of fullback Freek de Koch, gave Paarl Gym enough of a buffer to see out their fourth win in the last five games against Affies.

Wing Eagan Roux scored Affies’ only try of the match, with the remaining points coming from flyhalf Ruben Pienaar, who kicked a conversion and four penalties.

Meanwhile, Grey College returned to winning ways – following a historic first loss to Jeppe – by thrashing Outeniqua 90-3.

Pretoria’s Waterkloof brought Boksburg’s EG Jansen’s unbeaten start to the year to an end with an entertaining 45-38 win.

In the Eastern Cape, Dale and Queen’s College warmed up for their derby next weekend with respective wins against Grey High (33-25) and Selborne College (26-21).
