Captain Deon Fourie reckons UFC champion Dricus du Plessis is in the DHL Stormers’ corner for Saturday’s north-south derby duel with the Vodacom Bulls at Loftus Versfeld.

The Stormers welcomed Du Plessis to their training HQ in Bellville on 2 February, as ‘Stillknocks’ celebrated his historic middleweight title victory.

They shared a photo on social media of Du Plessis in the famous blue-and-white hoops of the Stormers, together with Ruhan Nel, Ali Vermaak, Evan Roos and Fourie, who claims the 30-year-old from Pretoria made him a promise to get behind the Capetonians.

“Dricus was at our high-performance centre a few weeks ago and he promised me that he is a Stormers supporter,” the skipper told reporters on Friday. “I trust that he will keep his word. I won’t fight him, I’ll buy him a beer instead.”

The jovial Fourie also shared his take on the selection of Springbok double world champion Willie le Roux among the Bull substitutes this week.

“Willie is newly married and back from his honeymoon, so I don’t think his fitness on the pitch is up to standard at the moment. No, it’s just a joke.”
