Cobus Reinach continued his excellent scoring form to aid Montpellier’s rise, while Rohan Janse van Rensburg dotted down for a debut try in Japan.

– Cobus Reinach scored his second try in two weeks – and his third of the season – to help lift Montpellier off the bottom of the table with a 28-23 win against Bayonne. Reinach, joined in the starting lineup by Jan Serfontein and Nico Janse van Rensburg, opened the scoring in the second minute as Montpellier climbed into 13th place with a fourth win in five games.
– European champions La Rochelle’s difficult domestic campaign continued after suffering a 27-5 defeat to relegation-threatened Perpignan. Raymond Rhule returned to make his first start of the season for La Rochelle, now just six points above the relegation zone after three losses in four games.
– Stade Francais strengthened their position at the top of the table by claiming a 27-11 victory over rivals Racing 92. Rory Kockott started for Stade, who had former Sharks lock JJ van der Mescht on the bench. Siya Kolisi started for Racing and was yellow carded in the opening 10 minutes for repeated infringements, while fullback Tristan Tedder took his season tally to 95 points with two penalties. Stade are now six points clear of third-placed Castres, but level on 40 points with defending champions Toulouse.
Japan League One
– Rohan Janse van Rensburg scored a try on debut for Canon Eagles in a 27-7 loss to unbeaten Toshiba Brave Lupus. The former Sharks centre played from the bench and crossed the whitewash in overtime. Former Stormers flank Kobus van Dyk and utility back SP Marais both started for the Eagles.
– Defending champions Kubota Spears put on a show by demolishing Kintetsu Liners 56-19 in a nine-try victory. Former Stormers centre Rikus Pretorius was among the try-scorers for the Spears, who had locks Ruan Botha and JD Schickerling in their lineup.
