Connacht are hoping that injured Ireland winger Mack Hansen will be back for the Irish outfit’s home clash against the DHL Stormers in the Vodacom URC next week.

The 26-year-old faces a slight delay in his return, with hopes pinned on his comeback in round 17 of the competition at Galway’s Sportsground.

His absence since January’s clash against defending champions Munster is attributed to finalising contact return protocols, and head coach Pete Wilkins has prioritised Hansen’s recovery while ruling out any risks.

“We’re not going to take any risks for his sake, but also for Ireland’s as well. It’s a shame he’s not there for this week but I hope we’ll see him at some point,” Wilkins was quoted by The Irish Examiner.

“There’s not been a major setback, it’s really just him ticking those final boxes in terms of returning to contact. I would have loved him to be available this week, as he would have as well but it’s a bit of a week-to-week at the moment.”

Meanwhile, JJ Hanrahan’s ACL injury sidelines him until 2025, with surgery imminent. Despite setbacks, Argentine Santiago Cordero nears debut against the Stormers.

Connacht this week welcome back Jack Carty but suffers blows with Denis Buckley and Cian Prendergast sidelined.
