Toulouse inflicted more cup final heartbreak on Leinster as they were crowned kings of European club rugby for a record-extending sixth time on Saturday.

But for four-time winners Leinster defeat at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium meant they had lost the last three Champions Cup finals.

In a match where neither side managed a try in a regulation 80 minutes that ended level at 15-15, Toulouse wing Matthis Lebel touched down early in extra-time after Leinster wing James Lowe had been sin-binned.

Josh van der Flier pulled a try back for Irish province Leinster, with Toulouse reduced to 14 men after replacement Richie Arnold was sent off.

But two penalties from Thomas Ramos enabled French giants Toulouse to build a decisive nine-point lead before holding out for a 31-22 win.
