Paul Roos went back-to-back against Affies in the main game of the North-South tournament, while Bishops ended their 175th festival on a high with a win against St Andrew’s.

The Maroon Machine triumphed over the White Bulls 30-25 in the main game of the North-South tournament on Saturday in Pretoria.

It is the second year in a row that Paul Roos have beaten Affies, following their 31-25 victory at last year’s Wildeklawer tournament, achieving the feat for the first time since 1992.

While Affies’ pack dominated the physical exchanges, the White Bulls could not make the most of their opportunities. Paul Roos, guided by another excellent performance from flyhalf Joshua Dampies, made no such mistake.

On the opening day of the North-South, Grey College faced KES for the first time since 1993 and came away with a 51-16 victory. Paarl Boys High beat Jeppe 45-19. Day two saw Paarl Gymnasium continue their winning run against Monument with a 38-21 victory.

Bishops held their two-day 175th festival on Thursday and Saturday. On day one, Bishops were beaten 37-17 by Michaelhouse, but the hosts bounced back on day two with a thrilling 30-29 victory over St Andrew’s College.

Wynberg High won both of their games at the festival, beating St Andrew’s 43-21 on the opening day and Kingswood College 35-7 on day two.
