Two-time Springbok world champion Faf de Klerk has been linked with several top European clubs, but it is believed that his salary expectations are too high.

According to a report on Rugby Pass, De Klerk is on Welsh outfit Cardiff’s radar, while French Top 14 clubs Toulon, Montpellier, Bayonne and Perpignan are also interested in the Bok scrumhalf.

It is understood that the 32-year-old earns as much as £900 000 (R16.7 million) playing for the Canon Eagles, after joining the Japanese League One side from Sale Sharks in 2022.

De Klerk, who helped South Africa win the Rugby World Cup in 2019 and 2023, left the Lions seven years ago after making 65 appearances for the Johannesburg side from 2014 to 2017.
