Former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones has fired parting shots at Australian rugby, criticising its lack of “hardness” in Stan Sport‘s new documentary series, The Wallabies.

Jones, now in back in charge of Japan, also labels sections of the media “idiots” and in an infamous pre-World Cup conference slams Australian rugby journalism, stating, “I thought it was ridiculous. And it shows the paucity of Australian Rugby journalism at the moment.”

He expresses frustration with questions about omitted players, deeming them “completely out of context and completely inappropriate”.

In a poignant moment after the 40-6 loss to Wales, Jones highlights Australia’s deficiency in “hardness”, emphasising the importance of game toughness.

Addressing veteran prop James Slipper, he contrasts Australian players with their Welsh counterparts, noting the latter’s 30 games a year make them “hardened, tough players”.

Jones laments the current state of Australian rugby, adding, “We’re not trained to be tough now… It stands out like dogs’ balls, mate. Set up for failure, mate.”
