Nyakane will join the Sharks after spending three seasons with Parisian giants Racing 92.

The 34-year-old has made 47 appearances in all competitions for Racing since moving to France from the Vodacom Bulls in 2021. However, his contract was not extended beyond the 2023-24 season, allowing him to negotiate a return to South Africa.

With fellow Springboks Ox Nche, Bongi Mbonambi and Vincent Koch all missing a large part of the season, the Sharks have struggled for consistency at the set piece. Nyakane, who can play on both sides of the scrum, will add plenty of experience to the front row, while he is also expected to play a mentorship role to the union’s younger props.

Nyakane’s signing follows the Sharks announcing that Bok lock Jason Jenkins and Lions duo Jordan Hendrikse and Emmanuel Tshituka will be arriving at Kings Park next season, with 2023 World Cup winner Andre Esterhuizen also set to move to Durban.
