Dave Rennie is steadfastly refusing to call his All Blacks bench the ‘Bomb Squad’ after selecting a bunch of gargantuan players for Saturday’s encounter with France.

The phrase was coined by the Springboks during their run to the 2019 Rugby World Cup final, which saw Rassie Erasmus innovate by picking forward-heavy benches as they overwhelmed their opponents up front.

Other national teams have followed suit and 6-2 splits among the replacements are now commonplace, while the 7-1 has also been used on occasion by South Africa and France.
