Franco Smith says Glasgow Warriors are embracing the challenge of travelling to Pretoria for the Vodacom URC final against the Bulls on Saturday.

Smith’s Warriors downed defending champions Munster in Limerick to set up a grand final clash with the Vodacom Bulls at Loftus Versfeld.

It will be the third successive Vodacom URC final in South Africa and the first in Pretoria, with Glasgow facing the challenge of travelling and recovering in less than seven days.

However, it is not an impossible task, as Munster showed last season when they travelled to Cape Town to dethrone the DHL Stormers, but the Irish club did have the benefit of an extra week between the semi-final and final, due to the European finals being held in between.

“For one, it’s not going to be an excuse,” Smith told the Premier Sports pundits. “So we are going to start there.

“This is part of the game, like injuries and refereeing decisions. It’s part of the game. We must embrace this, if we want to make this sport and this competition work across these borders. We have to make it work.

“First thing is to get on a flight as soon as possible. There some that will leave tomorrow [Sunday] and get that side first and recover. That’s the main ingredient this week, to be mentally prepared, but physically recovered.”
