Vodacom URC outfit Cardiff is reportedly keen to secure the services of one of South Africa’s underrated scrumhalves from next season.

According to a report on Wales Online, the Welsh club has locked on to Lions scrumhalf Johan Mulder, as they look to bolster their halfback ranks for the 2024-25 campaign.

Following Tomos Williams’ departure for Gloucester, head coach Matt Sherratt is keen on fortifying the No 9 position, and despite limited appearances for the Lions this season, Mulder has been touted as a potential target.

The 25-year-old has previously featured for the Vodacom Bulls and Griquas, displaying slick service and explosive running.

With budgets tightening across Welsh professional sides, it is understood that Cardiff seeks smart recruitment, akin to their successful signing of former Pumas playmaker Tinus de Beer this season.

The club’s new majority shareholders, Helford Capital, are understood to be on board with Sherratt’s pursuit of new talent, eyeing Mulder among other options.
