Jacques Nienaber will experience the Champions Cup semi-finals for the first time with Leinster after helping the Irish giants beat title-holders La Rochelle in Dublin on Saturday.

A two-time World Cup winner with South Africa, Nienaber joined the club as senior coach in November, and is now one match away from plotting a sixth European cup crown for Leinster after a resounding 40-13 win at the Aviva Stadium.

Springbok lock Jason Jenkins also featured for Leinster while Ireland winger James Lowe scored two of the home side’s five tries as last season’s losing finalists avenged back-to-back defeats against Ronan O’Gara’s men in the EPCR showpiece.

Flyhalf Ross Byrne kicked 15 points for Leo Cullen’s charges, who will face the winners between the Northampton Saints and Vodacom Bulls at Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday night in the last four of the knockout competition on the weekend of 3-5 May.
