Asenathi Ntlabakanye and Francke Horne say the Lions are fired up to show more “glimpses” of what they are capable of against the Vodacom Bulls on Saturday.

The Bulls claimed bragging rights in the recent Jukskei Derby clash between the teams at Loftus Versfeld to climb up the standings before a two-week pause in the Vodacom URC.

The defeat left the men from Joburg in 10th place on the log, while the Pretoria outfit saw them shift from sixth place to fourth after nine rounds in the competition.

Speaking in a Lions conference on Tuesday, Ntlabakanye told reporters that The Pride can’t wait to improve on their last outing and turn the tables on Jake White’s troops at Ellis Park.

“It’s quite simple, it’s a derby game and it’s quite big for us and we know that if we don’t replicate or do better than what we did at Loftus we’re not going to come up on top,” the burly prop said.

“I think it’s a big responsibility for the forwards but one that we’re to step to and accept.

“We’re not there yet but there’s certainly glimpses of what we’re capable of. We’re slowly building … Hopefully you can see more of those glimpses this weekend.”

No 8 Horne added: “We definitely have a lot of confidence, especially how we’re playing at the moment. We [also] played really well in the last game against the Bulls.

“But we’re not too focused on where we are on the log and are taking it game by game and if we play well and do well, we automatically go up.

“We’re really improving, week in and week out, and the losses that we’ve had have been by no more than seven points so it could’ve been a lot different. We just need to get those close games on our side and then things will look a lot better.”
