Hacjivah Dayimani scored a breakaway try from inside his own half as the DHL Stormers beat Northampton Saints in a thrilling exhibition match on Saturday.

In the first-ever encounter between the two teams, the DHL Stormers scored seven tries to claim a 45-29 win at Franklin’s Gardens.

Wandisile Simelane opened the scoring with an opportunistic try after receiving the ball from a Jurie Matthee crossfield kick.

Junior Pokomela, Keke Morabe and Stefan Ungerer also dotted down in the first half as the Stormers took a 26-19 lead into half time. Morabe suffered an injury towards the end of the first half and had to be helped off the field.

The Saints came roaring back in the second half and narrowed the deficit to just two points with a well-worked try.

However, the Stormers finished strongly as Connor Evans was on hand to finish off after Godlen Masimla intercepted, before Dayimani – playing on the wing – won the race to a kick and Pokomela grabbed his second try to round off the victory.
