Lood de Jager limped off the field before half time in the epic Japan League One final between Toshiba Brave Lupus and Wild Knights on Sunday.

De Jager’s Wild Knights slipped up at the final hurdle as they suffered to 24-20 loss to Brave Lupus after going through to the final unbeaten.

The Springbok lock, joined by Damian de Allende in Wild Knight’s starting lineup, was forced off just before the break with what appeared to be a knee injury.

Whether or not the injury will prevent De Jager from making his return to the Springboks in the July series against Ireland is not yet clear.

De Jager missed the 2023 World Cup due to a heart condition, but has been in superb from since making his return to the field in January, helping Wild Knights finish top of the table without a single loss.

Meanwhile, De Allende had an outstanding outing for Wild Knights in the final, winning a couple of key defensive turnovers, while playing a big role in what appeared to be the winning try for his side in the final play, which was chalked off by the TMO for a forward pass in the build-up.
