Increasingly there have been reports that rising scrumhalf star Haashim Pead finds his future at the Lions shrouded in uncertainty following a frustrating period starved of regular first-team rugby.

Despite arriving in Johannesburg with immense hype – fresh off a player-of-the-tournament performance at the World Rugby U20 Championship – the 20-year-old playmaker has found himself stuck in a logjam behind the likes of Springbok halfback Morné van den Berg.

Behind closed doors, it is understood that “crunch meetings” have taken place between Pead and top Lions executives in recent weeks to address his lack of minutes.
