Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx has secured one of the sport’s highest honours, being named the World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year on Saturday night.

Veteran Bok lock Victor Matfield was the man to announce Marx’s achievement, sparking jubilant celebrations in the Springbok changeroom as the front rower’s teammates mobbed him with cheers and embraces.

With the award, Marx has added his name to a short and prestigious list of South African greats. The announcement came shortly after the Boks’ 24-13 victory over Ireland at the Aviva Stadium.
