Montpellier full-back and former Scotland captain Stuart Hogg is set to be sentenced after he admitted he had abused his estranged wife over a five-year period.
The 32-year-old appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to a single domestic abuse charge of his former partner, Gillian Hogg, last month.
Hogg, who will be sentenced on Thursday, admitted to “shouting, swearing and acting in an abusive manner” towards his former partner, as well as repeatedly tracking her movements and sending messages of an alarming and distressing nature.
Multiple text messages sent
Previously the court heard he once sent more than 200 text messages to his wife in the space of a few hours and he lambasted her for “not being fun” after he went on drinking binges with friends.
The court also heard that the Hoggs are currently in the process of a divorce.
Prosecutor Drew Long said the couple moved to Exeter in 2019 with their three young children but Hogg’s “behaviour deteriorated” as he went out partying.
Long also revealed that in 2020, after the couple moved to Hawick, Hogg used an app to track his wife and “questioned her whereabouts” while she was dropping the children off.

Last year, Mrs Hogg decided to end the relationship and sought advice from a domestic abuse service.
Panic attack
The court heard that in September 2023 Hogg sent so many messages to Mrs Hogg that it led to her having a panic attack and in February this year, police were called due to Hogg “shouting and swearing”.
He was subsequently taken into custody and then placed on a bail order which stipulated that he should not contact his wife or enter the family home.
Hogg won 100 caps for Scotland and also went on three British and Irish Lions tours, representing the famous touring team in two Tests against the Springboks in 2021.
He also won a PRO14, Premiership and Champions Cup title during his stints at Glasgow Warriors and Exeter.
Despite retiring in the build-up to the 2023 World Cup in France, he made a dramatic U-turn earlier this year as he returned to the game after penning a two-year deal with Top 14 outfit Montpellier.
