The Stormers have received a shot in the arm ahead of the Saturday’s clash against the Sharks in Cape Town with the news that rookie Springboks utility back Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is training again.

There were concerned looks on the faces of Stormers supporters during their 29-10 United Rugby Championship (URC) victory over the Lions at the weekend, after Feinberg-Mngomezulu limped off the field in the 28th minute.

Came off second best in contact

This, after he came of second best in a one-on-one duel with 140 kilogram Lions tighthead prop Asenathi Ntlabakanye.

It was the second successive game that Feinberg-Mngomezulu had to leave the pitch before half-time after he only lasted 30 minutes when the Stormers faced the Sharks in Durban last month.

That followed a frustrating period on the sidelines after he sustained a knee injury while on duty for the Springboks against the All Blacks during the Rugby Championship.

However, Stormers forward coach Rito Hlungwani confirmed that Feinberg-Mngomezulu is already back at training and could feature in the highly anticipated URC derby with the Sharks this weekend.

Keen for Feinberg-Mngomezulu to play more games

Hlungwani said Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s latest injury is not so serious and the Stormers’ backroom staff are keen for the 22-year-old to play in several matches in a row.

“In a perfect world, we really want him to string a couple of games together,” said the coach.

Hlungwani said Feinberg-Mngomezulu is a valuable member of the Stormers family as he was still contributing to the team even when he was not available to play.

“Even when injured he is always around,” he added. “He always wants to give back to the team in terms of analysing and contributing with feedback.”
