Springbok fullback Willie le Roux will likely see out his playing career at the Bulls after signing a contract extension at the Pretoria franchise.

The Bulls announced on Friday that Le Roux had signed a new deal that will see him continue to ply his trade at Loftus Versfeld until 2027.

Le Roux had played in Japan at Toyota Verblitz (2019-2023) before he joined the Bulls two years ago.

At 35 years of age, it’s therefore likely that Le Roux will finish his rugby career in South Africa.

“South Africa will always be my home, but my team-mates at the Bulls have been a big reason behind the decision to stay. Hopefully, I can continue to guide some of the passionate younger players that are coming through over the next two years,” Le Roux said in a statement.

Le Roux is well travelled as a rugby player. Locally, he started out at the Boland Cavaliers (2010-2011), before playing for Griquas (2012-2013) and the Cheetahs (2012-2015). He represented the Cheetahs in Super Rugby while on the books of Griquas before joining the Cheetahs on a permanent basis.

He then played for the Canon Eagles in Japan (2015-2017), while there was a stint at the Sharks in Durban (2016) and Wasps in England (2017-2019).

Le Roux won the World Cup with the Springboks in 2019 and 2023 and currently boasts 98 Test caps, with Bok coach Rassie Erasmus saying last month he felt Le Roux deserved to get to the century mark in Tests this year.
