Springbok wing Edwill van der Merwe has signed for the Sharks, the coastal franchise announced on Monday.

After plying his trade at the Lions since 2021, Van der Merwe, whose only Springbok cap came against Wales in 2024, has decided to move to the Sharks after opting not to renew his contract with the Johannesburg franchise.

Van der Merwe, 28, who started his career at the Stormers, scored on his international debut for South Africa, running in a brilliant solo try to earn the man of the match award, with the Springboks winning 41-13 at Twickenham.

The speedy winger scored 30 tries in 67 matches for the Lions and will add plenty of pace out wide for the Sharks.
