Stormers director of rugby John Dobson has revealed that the Cape side would welcome the return of Springboks captain Siya Kolisi to the side.
Recent reports have suggested that the inspirational leader is looking to make the move back to Cape Town as he looks to be closer to his children following the divorce with his wife Rachel.
Deal complications
The move makes sense in that Kolisi began his career at the Stormers and even led the side for a portion of his 118 caps in Cape Town. However, there are hurdles to the deal considering that the Sharks paid R18 million for the early release from his Racing 92 contract to allow his Durban return for this season.
So for Kolisi to request less than halfway through the current campaign to depart from the union that paid such a large sum of money could make matters complicated. Dobson underlined that the Capetonians have a good relationship with the Sharks and that internal discussions in Durban is the first step.
“It’s out there that Siya would be interested in a move back and it’s something we’d entertain, but he’s under contract with the Sharks,” he told reporters.
“The first conversation is – if Siya would like to join us – that would be something between him and the Sharks; he’s got a contract there that we respect.”

No approach made
The director of rugby made it clear that the Stormers have not approached the Springbok leader.
“We certainly didn’t approach Siya and we have a great relationship with the Sharks so that’s up to him,” he stressed.
“He’s a great leader and player, and has a long history [with the Stormers] but [a possible move] is up to him and the Sharks.
“Once that box is ticked then we can see what’s in the piggy bank – but that’s another conversation!”
Adding further spice to the saga is the Coastal Derby this weekend that sees Kolisi lead the Sharks against his former side in the Mother City.
