Stormers fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu has revealed that he will not change his style of play despite it proving costly for the team during a recent United Rugby Championship (URC) match.
During the men from the Cape’s Round 14 match against Ulster at Kingspan Stadium last month, Feinberg-Mngomezulu was yellow carded for taking out the home side’s speedster Rob Baloucoune in an off-the-ball challenge just before half-time.
The Stormers were holding a 17-10 lead at the time but Ulster soon gained the upper hand courtesy of two tries during his stint in the sin bin.
Ulster eventually clinched a narrow 38-34 victory and although he admitted to being on a steep learning curve, Feinberg-Mngomezulu said he would not change his all-action approach to the game.
“I think I am well on the way there [to learning from those mistakes],” the 23-year-old told reporters. “My job for any team I play for is to move the needle forward and that wasn’t one of my best moments.
“But I like to play the game at 100% and sometimes I am going to be on the edge. Of course you don’t get that yellow card if you have played a perfect game on the edge so I know that it cost the team and it isn’t a good look for Stormers rugby.
‘I don’t want to change my game or my competitiveness’
“But I want to keep giving 100% for the team and just not make those little mistakes. I want to mature my game so I stay on the right side of yellow cards but at the same time I don’t want to change my game or my competitiveness for the team.”
Feinberg-Mngomezlu also revealed that the Stormers are targeting a full house of 20 points from their four remaining league matches in the URC.
Ahead of the tournament’s last four rounds of action before the play-offs, there is a frantic scramble for spots among the competition’s top eight teams.
While Leinster, defending champions Glasgow Warriors, the Bulls and Sharks are sitting pretty in the competition’s top four positions – which will secure them home quarter-finals – only nine points separate fifth-placed Munster and the Lions, who occupy 14th position in the standings.

The Stormers are currently in 10th position in the table and will host 13th-placed Connacht in the first of four home matches in Cape Town on Saturday with their other fixtures seeing them taking on Benetton, the Dragons and Cardiff.
Ahead of this weekend’s encounter with their Irish opponents, Feinberg-Mngomezlu highlighted the importance of his team gaining maximum points from their remaining league fixtures.
Highlights the importance of home games
“Playing at home again is extremely important for us, and will give us the best possible chance to get 20 points from the four remaining matches,” he said.
“That is what kind of separates the top from the middle of the table in this competition.
“When you can get five points, you must take the five.
“It would be wrong not to aim for the big prize in five, and if we miss it and get four points, we would still be happy.
“But we want to get as many points from these four fixtures as possible.
“We have built some good momentum (in the URC) since the win against the Bulls in Pretoria.
“Getting five points away from home against the Scarlets was very important. It was our first win overseas since October.
“We shot ourselves in the foot against Ulster, but will take confidence in the points we scored and how we played against them.”
