Bath Rugby will face Leicester Tigers in the Premiership final next Saturday at Twickenham after the two sides came through their respective semi-finals against Bristol Bears and Sale Sharks.

Bath were the first of the two sides to book their place in the final, after beating their local rivals Bristol in a true ‘game of two halves’. The visitors had taken an early and commanding lead over their hosts through the boot of AJ McGinty and a well-taken try by James Dun.

Bath were quick to bring the game back into contention, however, before taking an unassailable lead shortly into the second half. The talented Benhard Janse van Rensburg scored a final Bristol try towards the end of the match, but it would prove to be just a consolation.

The match would end 34-20, with Bath now set to take their place in their second Premiership final in a row.

Tigers roar on

It was a fierce performance from the Tigers on Saturday, as they pushed aside a very tough Sale Sharks team, 21-16.

Leicester appeared to be in control for much of the match, but Sale remained in contention, coming back to draw level with very little of the game remaining. It was thanks to super-sub, Izaia Perese, that Leicester would once again pull ahead when he scored an impressive try, running in from 40 metres out.

Despite one final surge from the visitors, this five-point lead was enough to secure victory.

Northampton Saints won last year’s final after defeating Bath 25–21, but their title is set to be handed over to either Bath or Leicester this year.
