In one of the more bizarre moments in recent memory, a player for Marlow Rugby Club in England was “wiped out” by a deer during a fixture over the weekend.
The game between Marlow 2nd XV and Rams Centaurs 3rds in the Counties 2 Tribute Berks/Bucks & Oxon South league took an unexpected turn on Saturday afternoon.
With the action halted due to what looked like an injury, footage of a deer racing from one end of the field to the other was captured by a fan watching from the sideline.
Player ‘wiped out’
However, that meant one unlucky player’s embarrassing moment has now gone viral as he was “wiped out” by the animal that was on its way to the opposition try-line.
The incident led to plenty of laughter from the spectators and there has since been comments and puns galore about the moment in a match that Marlow edged 19-17.
“Oh deer,” Dan Jones wrote on X while Michael McGrane expanded on that line – and the fact that Christmas is fast approaching – by adding, “Report to Elf and Safety!”

Pete Breakwell added: “Springbok presumably?” and he was not the first to go down that route, with Dan Keevy writing, “Eben Etzebok”, as X readers had their say.
Marlow Rugby Club did confirm that both player and animal weren’t injured and touched on the irony of the team’s opponent’s name during the past weekend’s clash.
“We can confirm both Player and Muntjac are okay. Ironically we were playing Rams 3XV,” they wrote.
It’s a moment that has certainly put Marlow Rugby Club on the map but one would think the player would have preferred that not to be the case, as Macca wrote on X.
“Sell up and leave the country, the nicknames will be endless and forever.”
