Former All Blacks forward Carl Hayman avoided jail last month after it has emerged that he tormented a woman by threatening to post intimate photos of her online.
The former Highlanders, Newcastle Falcons and Toulon front-rower, who played for his country in 46 games, can now be named after an order suppressing his identity ended.
Hayman, appearing at a court in New Plymouth, New Zealand in November, pleaded guilty to three charges of posting an intimate visual recording without consent.
Intensive supervision
The New Zealand Herald reports that Hayman’s dementia diagnosis reduced his culpability while the court also heard that he has struggled with alcohol addiction.
He was ordered by the New Plymouth District Court judge to complete 18 months of intensive supervision and also pay the victim $3000 in emotional harm reparation.
“Whilst Carl was not given a prison sentence, I hope this intensive supervision is adhered to and helps Carl address his behaviour,” Hayman’s victim said to NZME.

“It’s an opportunity to use the probation supervision to his advantage to stop drinking forever and learn how to manage his anger and work through his abusive behaviour.”
She continued: “My family has had to deal with some very unpleasant behaviour and his family will have to deal with the embarrassment and shame.
“It reaches far beyond just the victim – friends and family members are also drawn into the abuse and public resources like police and charities.”
Judge Tony Greig told Hayman: “I’ve marked the record with ‘final warning’.
Name suppression wish
“The starting point for this is prison and you need to be very clear that if this happens again, that’s where the end point will be as well.”
Hayman applied for an order to permanently suppress his name that was refused by the judge in favour of a short extension, with his victim firm in her opinion on the matter.
“It’s not okay and it needs to be called out. The judge made it clear that just because Carl was known, that this doesn’t allow for name suppression,” she stressed.
Hayman played for the All Blacks from 2001 to 2007 before leaving the country after that year’s Rugby World Cup for a lucrative contract at English side Newcastle Falcons.
