Leicester Tigers have announced the signing of England international Adam Radwan, who joins the club with immediate effect after leaving Newcastle Falcons.

The 27-year-old flyer has agreed a multi-year contract at the East Midlands outfit and departs the Falcons after making 128 appearances for them, scoring 59 tries.

Radwan made his England international bow in the summer of 2021, earning the first of his two international caps against Canada at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.

Exciting addition

His arrival at Leicester Tigers has delighted head coach Michael Cheika, with the news coming in the same week that wing Anthony Watson announced his retirement.

“Adam is an exciting player, with a proven record for finding the try line and someone who will add great competition to our back three ranks as well as bring with him a wealth of experience,” said the Australian.

“He’s a great young bloke, who we are excited to have link up with us this week and getting him on to the training field alongside his new club mates.”

Newcastle Falcons insisted they had no hard feelings towards Radwan who will always be welcomed back to Kingston Park as the club battles to survive in the Premiership.

“Adam is a great lad who has been nothing but professional during my year of working with him, and I know everyone at Kingston Park will join me in wishing him all the best for his move,” said director of rugby Steve Diamond.

“I understand our supporters will be disappointed at losing a player of his ability, and of course we share those sentiments.

“Adam is an ambitious player who came to us and expressed his desire to take up this opportunity with Leicester. There’s absolutely no animosity between Adam and ourselves, and he will always be welcomed back here as a player who has given tremendous service to this club.”

Diamond added: “We will continue working hard to make Newcastle Falcons a highly competitive force in the Gallagher Premiership, and I firmly believe there is a bright future for professional rugby here in the North East.”

Radwan words

Radwan meanwhile admitted it was a difficult decision to leave Newcastle and wanted to thank the club’s supporters and wished the Falcons every success in the future.

“I’ve loved my time at the club and have got nothing but positive memories,” he said.

“The supporters and everybody at Kingston Park have always been great with me, and I can’t express how much that has meant. I will always have huge affection for Newcastle Falcons and I hope they go on to enjoy the success that they deserve.”
