England are set to take on Argentina in a two-Test series in July this year at the same time Andy Farrell’s British & Irish Lions are on tour in Australia.

In a first tour of South America since 2017, Steve Borthwick’s side will tackle a dangerous Los Pumas side in La Plata on July 5 and again in San Juan on July 12.

With the Tests taking place whilst Farrell’s men are on tour Down Under it’s likely that England head coach Borthwick will be missing some quality personnel.

The likes of Marcus Smith, Maro Itoje, Alex Mitchell, Ben Earl and a handful of other players are predicted to be on the plane to take on the Wallabies this year.

That means the tour to Argentina will throw up a big opportunity for England players that have bided their time for minutes as they look to impress Borthwick.

England last met Los Pumas at the 2023 Rugby World Cup in the third-place play-off and the Red Rose narrowly came out on top 26-23 at the Stade de France.

Tries from Earl and Theo Dan aided by 16 points off the tee from Owen Farrell saw England to victory that day as they won the Bronze medal at the tournament.

On their previous two-game tour to Argentina the English won both of their internationals, prevailing 38-34 and 35-25 in the fixtures in San Juan and Santa Fe.

The 2025 series will kick off after Los Pumas take on the British and Irish Lions at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on June 20, before the latter depart for Australia.

Argentina in form

The Lions will take on the Wallabies in a three-Test series with those key matches scheduled for Brisbane (July 19), Melbourne (July 26) and Sydney (August 2).

Argentina enter the year after an impressive 2024 campaign in which they beat the All Blacks, Wallabies and Springboks to finish third in the Rugby Championship.
