Rieko Ioane’s friends and family have been targeted in a series of posts online, according to the Blues star.
In a post shared on his social media story today, the 28-year-old has called for fans to keep his friends and family out of the comments.
The controversial All Blacks star responded to comments that were left on his recent Instagram post, in which he shared pictures of his ‘shhh’ celebration during the Blues‘ Super Rugby play-off win over the Chiefs.
He titled the post, ‘Should’ve killed me when you had the chance’ – but it appears that some of the comments have gone too far for his liking.
Ioane’s message
“To all the “fans” let’s keep family and friends out of my comments – I know the game I play, but that is for me not them,” said Ioane.
“live and die by the sword, all to create a spectacle of the beautiful game.
“If you really want to see what it’s like to be a footy player, go to your local super rugby club and join in.
“Ain’t no other job in the world where family members get criticised for what you do on the field for 80mins.
“Be better and pay that sky bill,” he concluded.

Fans’ reaction to the post
The initial reaction to the post was fiery, with both sets of fans ready to put their point across. Many neutrals had their own humorous point to prove, however, with one asking: “G did u even do anything the whole game?”
Other similar notes continued:
- “You busier on the gram than you were on the field,”
- “When you do nothing but get an A on the group project”
- “Does nothing all game, that’s why he out here posting on the gram immediately afterwards”
One thing is for sure, though: he knows how to get a reaction.
