In what will be the last game of the campaign in Cape Town, DHL Western Province are fired up to push for the Currie Cup playoffs against the Sharks XV on Saturday.

DHL Western Province are back in Cape Town for a coastal derby against the Sharks XV, looking to boost their hopes of finishing in the Currie Cup’s top four.

With just two games left after this weekend – one of those in Stellenbosch against the Pumas – assistant coach Dawie Snyman says Province want to make the most of the Cape Town sunshine.

“It’s nice to be back. It’s been a nice week in Cape Town,” Snyman said.

“There’s been good weather. I know it’s going to rain a bit tomorrow morning, but the afternoon will be clearing up, so we are excited to be back.

“I know we are seven points behind the Sharks, who are in fourth. This game is massive in terms of that.

“We aren’t really putting too much focus on log points, but we have discussed the importance of the game and getting the victory.”

Coached by former Springbok wing JP Pietersen, the Sharks XV have taken a similar approach to WP in the Currie Cup, blooding youngsters alongside experienced veterans.

“They’ll definitely be a tough test,” Snyman said. “They’ve had two good results, beating the Lions and Cheetahs away from home. Johannesburg and Bloemfontein are tough places to go and win.

“They’ve played some good rugby and their players are performing really well. It’s going to be a really good test for us as a team.”
