Fullback Josh McKay said the Glasgow Warriors can expect a formidable Vodacom Bulls outfit when the teams clash in the URC final at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

The Bulls edged Leinster in Pretoria last week, before Glasgow beat defending champions Munster at Thomond Park to book a place in the finale, and set up a titanic rematch with the Herd at Loftus where the Scottish visitors had lost earlier this season.

The hosts raced to a 37-10 lead in the second half before Glasgow rallied to score three late tries, the Bulls surviving the fightback to win 40-34.

McKay, who previously toured the Republic in Super Rugby, is eager to stretch his legs on the Highveld again during a must-win showdown with Jake White’s troops.

“You saw how good they were against Leinster last week. They [Leinster] are a world-class outfit,” the New Zealander was quoted in the media in the buildup to this week’s URC decider.

“We have to keep on building from what we did in the DHL Stormers [in the quarter-finals] and Munster games. We are well prepared and well know what the challenge is that Bulls will bring at Loftus.

“I’m just really looking forward to the challenge ahead. The Bulls at Loftus, as a young kid supporting the Crusaders, that’s where you wanted to be.

“Yes, I’m not wearing a Crusaders jersey but it’s awesome wearing the Warriors jersey playing in an awesome stadium against awesome opposition.”

Under the stewardship of Franco Smith, Glasgow have outmuscled their opponents while posing an all-round threat with their expansive running game.

“You always have some good structure to fall back on when the game gets a bit free-flowing,” McKay said. “We’ll be able to pull it back to our structures and how we want to play the game.

“We will do what we can do to be in every moment and give ourselves a chance at the end of the game.”
