Organisers have accommodated a request from SA Rugby, and the clashes involving the four local teams on the opening weekend of the 2024-25 Vodacom URC have been rescheduled.

Last week, Netwerk24 reported that the 21 September clash between the Sharks and Lions in Durban and the north-south showdown between the DHL Stormers and Vodacom Bulls at Cape Town Stadium would be shifted to a later date in the season.

The URC initially scheduled the SA derbies for the same day as the Currie Cup final, which would have forced a reshuffling of kick-off times.

STATE OF THE CURRIE CUP: Cat fight for semis spot

“Due to a request from the South African Rugby Union (SA Rugby), the Round 1 Vodacom United Rugby Championship fixtures involving the South African teams will now be moved from the weekend of September 20 to avoid a clash with the Carling Currie Cup Final,” read a statement released on Tuesday.

“Originally, the DHL Stormers were due to take on the Vodacom Bulls in Cape Town and the Hollywoodbets Sharks were to host the Emirates Lions in Durban on Saturday, September 21. These fixtures will be rescheduled to early 2025.

“The Vodacom United Rugby Championship is working with SA Rugby, the home teams and host broadcasters, SuperSport, to reschedule these fixtures in order to update ticket holders and supporters as soon as possible.”
