Former Springbok assistant coach Swys de Bruin and current Junior Boks boss Bafana Nhleko are reportedly set to take charge of the Springbok Women’s team.

According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, De Bruin will fufill a mentorship role, similar to Wayne Smith’s successful stint with New Zealand’s Black Ferns.

It is understood that De Bruin has been approached by SA Rugby to guide Nhleko, a strong candidate to succeed Louis Koen as the women’s head coach.

Nhleko is anticipated to boost the women’s team’s performance with De Bruin, despite the Junior Boks finishing seventh at the recent U20 World Rugby Championship. This move aligns with SARU’s restructuring efforts, spearheaded by their head of rugby Dave Wessels.

De Bruin, 64, brings extensive coaching experience, including stints with the Lions, Griquas, and Sharks U21. Nhleko and De Bruin’s relationship dates back to their time with the Lions.

Heyneke Meyer, Nick Mallett, Gert Smal, and Allister Coetzee might also join SARU’s revamped structure, according to Rapport’s sources.
