The Currie Cup got off to a cracking start as the Cheetahs and Vodacom Bulls claimed statement victories, while the Pumas and Lions also made positive starts on the road.

On Friday afternoon, Pumas kicked off their 2024 campaign with a convincing 44-24 win over Griquas to gain revenge for their recent SA Cup final loss at the same venue in Kimberley.

In Friday’s second game, the Sharks XV and Lions dished up a thriller in Durban, with the Gauteng side emerging as winners by a single point, 26-25, to break the hearts of the home supporters.

The action continues from Friday until Sunday, with four more matches scheduled: Griquas vs Sharks XV; Pumas vs Lions; Cheetahs vs DHL WP; and Griffons vs Vodacom Bulls.
