Wallace Sititi has stamped his authority in a standout season for New Zealand, yet the young loose forward isn’t becoming complacent as his stocks continue to rise.

The All Blacks sensation reinforced his credentials as frontrunner for World Rugby’s 2024 Breakthrough Player of the Year with a Man of the Match performance in the Kiwis’ victory against England at Twickenham on Saturday.

The 22-year-old, who missed selection for the July series, has emerged as one of the All Blacks’ most consistent performers in his debut Test season.

Speaking to The Breakdown after his impressive display last week, Sititi reflected on handling the pressure of the occasion: “It’s about acknowledging where we are – it’s a big stadium, massive atmosphere.

“I think it’s really about acknowledging the pressure and moving towards it, listening to my leaders and the senior boys who have been there.”

The young flanker, who completed all 10 of his tackle attempts while delivering explosive carries against England, maintains a measured view of his progress.

“I think I’m content, I’ve found my rhythm a little bit,” he said. “I don’t want to get comfortable, I know somebody can come and take my jersey just like that.”

All Blacks assistant coach Scott Hansen lauded Sititi’s impact: “He’s been dominant around his ball carry, his influence, his speed, his change of speed.

“He’s a young, composed All Black and he’s got a long runway. He will get better.”
