Flanker Rory Darge believes club success in the Vodacom URC against SA teams will boost Scotland’s chances of victory against the Springboks in Edinburgh on Sunday.
Darge, who played in Glasgow’s historic URC final win over the Vodacom Bulls in 2023-24 at Loftus Versfeld, claims such experiences equip Scotland to challenge the world champions.
“It is a good thing that we’ve had the experience of playing South Africa,” Darge said in a Scotland conference on Thursday. “A lot of the group have had the experience of playing them now, so I have a bit of a better idea of what’s coming.”
Darge noted that the club-level accomplishments of fellow Scots, including Blair Kinghorn’s Champions Cup and Top 14 success with Toulouse, have further bolstered the team’s mindset.

“The results they’ve got and obviously the club’s successes and the form that we’ve been in with Scotland as well means that we’ll go into it with a bit of belief,” he explained.
For Darge, facing South Africa at Murrayfield is a moment to relish, though he’s mindful of the Boks’ ability to apply immense pressure.
“It’s an opportunity to play the two-time world champions. Everyone came in on Monday just excited to get into it,” he said.
Reflecting on the last meeting between the teams, a 2023 rugby World Cup pool win for the Boks, lhe added, “The way they play against you puts you under a lot of pressure, and tests your skills. I think we learnt a lot from that game.”
