Defending champions Munster have reportedly targeted a former Sharks star as a replacement for retiring veteran Simon Zebo.

Veteran Ireland outside back Zebo announced that he will be retiring from professional rugby at the end of the season.

Reports in France have suggested that Munster have agreed a deal with former Sharks winger Thaakir Abrahams as a replacement.

According to French publication Le Progres, Abrahams has asked for an early release from his contract with Top 14 side Lyon after just one season in France.

Abrahams joined Lyon last year, but has played just 12 games out of a potential 32 for the Top 14 strugglers this season.

Lyon are reportedly open to accepting Abrahams’ request, as it would open up a non-JIFF (French qualified) position in their squad.

Despite not enjoying the best season for Lyon, Abrahams has earned comparisons to two-time World Cup winner Cheslin Kolbe, with his ability to play on the wing and at fullback.

The 25-year-old still has his best days ahead of him and scored six tries for Lyon, after dotting down five times in the 2022-23 URC campaign for the Sharks.
