All Blacks centre Rieko Ioane has fired back at former Ireland captain Johnny Sexton with a cheeky social media post.
This comes after an extract from Sexton’s soon-to-be-released autobiography surfaced, where Sexton recalled a heated exchange with Ioane following Ireland’s defeat to the All Blacks in the 2023 Rugby World Cup quarter-final.
In the extract, Sexton wrote: “After [referee Wayne] Barnes blows the final whistle, [Ioane] says, ‘Don’t miss your flight home tomorrow. Enjoy your retirement, you c**t.’ So much for the All Blacks’ famous ‘no dickheads’ policy. So much for their humility.”
Ioane has since responded on Instagram, sharing a picture of the two from that match with a joker card placed above his head and a house emoji below Sexton’s image.
Accompanying the image, Ioane played ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries, starting at the line “in your head,” seemingly mocking Sexton’s comments.
The All Blacks and Ireland will meet again on 8 November in Dublin as part of New Zealand’s end-of-year tour.
