Back-to-back world champions, the Springboks have evolved under the guidance of Rassie Erasmus, in their style, purpose, mentality, and performance, writes MARK KEOHANE.

Writing for TimesLIVE, Keohane emphasises that Erasmus has shifted from the traditional focus on a starting XV to a team of 23, integrating impact and finishing players. This unique approach has led to remarkable success, with the Boks winning 21 of their last 25 Tests.

He argues that Erasmus’ vision has created an inclusive environment, giving 45 players game time during the 2024 Rugby Championship, aiming to build a 50-player squad for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. His strategy delivered eight wins from 10 matches so far this year, and the championship title.

Keohane notes that key players such as Pieter-Steph du Toit, Cheslin Kolbe, and Siya Kolisi exemplify South Africa’s dominance.

Erasmus also prioritised transformation, making the Boks the most diverse and successful squad in the team’s history. Keohane encourages fans to celebrate this “golden era”, highlighting that the Boks’ achievements reflect their unity and world-class consistency.

KEO: Bok stats make a powerful statement

“South African rugby fans are living through a golden era… Siya Kolisi’s Rainbow Warriors are indeed representative of a Rainbow Nation and also an example of excellence,” he writes.

“[Erasmus] backed players in the biggest matches that were not considered starting options and he has revolutionised the game in playing with 23 players, 15 who start and eight who finish.

“He has evolved the World Cup-winning match 23 in style, in purpose and in mentality. And he has done this in a winning way.

“Respect to his vision and respect to how the players have responded. It is great to be a Springboks supporter. Relish in the moment.”
