Flyer Rabz Maxwane scored a hat-trick of tries in the Lions’ emphatic victory over Edinburgh at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Maxwane’s 15 points accounted for three of the hosts’ eight tries in a 55-21 win against the touring Scottish club.

The Lions flew out the blocks, scoring 48 unanswered points in the first 40 and added another try in the second half, while a 21-point resurgence from the visitors after the restart made the final score slightly more palatable.

The hosts eight tries came through fullback Quan Horn, wing Edwil Van der Merwe, inside centre Rynhardt Jonker, No 8 and captain Francke Horn and Maxwane’s hat-trick.

For Edinburgh, lock Grant Gilchrist and bench duo of hooker Patrick Harrison and loose forward Ben Muncaster each dotted down.

The Lions begin their overseas tour next week when they travel to Wales to face the Dragons, while Edinburgh return to Scotland where they host the Stormers.
