Lions fullback Quan Horn is relishing the opportunity to make his mark in the Test arena after being included in the Springbok squad for the clash against Wales next Saturday.

The 22-year-old is among the 12 newcomers in the current Bok camp, along with Lions teammates Edwill van der Merwe and Jaden Hendrikse, and is a strong contender for the starting XV for the Twickenham clash.

Horn eagerly anticipates donning the Bok jersey for the first time. “Then I’ll know it’s the big moment,” he told Sunday newspaper Rapport.

Competing with Aphelele Fassi and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu for the No 15 jersey, Horn added: “It’s a great honour and privilege to be part of the group.

“Hopefully my first Test is around the corner.”

Learning from experienced players like Jesse Kriel has been invaluable for Horn, who is inspired by their achievements.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Fassi credits his improved play to Sharks’ defence coach Joey Mongalo.

“Coach Joey was massive in my journey to get back here and helped improve my confidence in all areas of the game,” Fassi said.

Back in the Bok squad after his last Test in July 2022, Fassi is determined to prove his worth.

Head coach John Plumtree also played a significant role in Fassi’s development.  “I had freedom to play as I wanted at the Sharks. I got the approval from Plum,” Fassi stated.
