Paul Roos Gimnasium completed an unbeaten season in style by claiming their biggest-ever victory over Grey College in Stellenbosch on Saturday.

The Maroon Machine made mincemeat of their traditional rivals in the season finale at the Markotter Stadium, powering to a 36-3 win to end their 2024 without a single defeat.

It is the first time that Paul Roos has gone through a year unbeaten since 1991, when former Springbok prop Cobus Visagie represented the 1st XV.

Both schools were without their South Africa U18 players, who are in Cape Town for the U18 International Series.

Rondebosch confirmed their place as the kings of Cape Town’s southern suburbs by beating Bishops 22-5 in the second leg of their annual derby.

Meanwhile, Waterkloof made their own bit of history by reaching the Noordvaal Cup final for the first time since 2011.

The Klofies held out to claim a 35-34 away semi-final victory against Monument in Krugersdorp.

A thrilling end to the match saw Monument score what they thought was the winning try in overtime, but missed the conversion which would have given the hosts the win.

Waterkloof will take on arch-rivals Garsfontein in the final, after the Bears snatched a late 27-25 win over EG Jansen in Boskburg.

Selected results (Saturday, 17 August):
Paul Roos 36 Grey College 3
Rondebosch 22 Bishops 5
Wynberg 9 SACS 7
Stellenburg 15 Durbanville 8
Outeniqua 8 HTS Drostdy 0
Monument 34 Waterkloof 35
Garsfontein 27 EG Jansen 25
