Leinster showed their class in fighting back to overtake and then subdue a breathless effort from the touring Lions in Dublin on Saturday night.
In a round 6 clash of the URC’s two remaining unbeaten teams, log leaders Leinster tamed the Lions in what ended as a comfortable victory at the Aviva Stadium.
Irish back-row duo Josh van der Flier and Caelan Doris dotted down, while the hosts’ were awarded a late penalty try to secure a deserved 24-6 result.
In the first half, the Lions took a 6-3 lead in the first quarter with two penalties from flyhalf Kade Wolhuter, before flanker Van der Flier crossed the whitewash on the half-hour mark and flyhalf Sam Prendergast kicked the extras to take the hosts into half time with a 10-6 lead.
The second half saw Leinster take control with more offensive territory and possession, and No 8 Caelan Dorris scored at the end of the third quarter, converted by Prendergast.
A last-minute penalty try was awarded after the Lions were deemed to have committed foul play defending a red zone maul.
The Lions resume their European tour at the end of November when they return to Ireland to face Munster, while league leaders Leinster face Irish rivals Ulster at the Kingspan Stadium in round 7.
