Ireland prop Andrew Porter has praised RG Snyman, who recently joined Leinster, hailing the towering Springbok lock’s impact both on and off the field for the club.

“Myself and RG have a lot more in common than I thought,” Porter shared with the Irish Examiner. “Music tastes! He’s like the bigger Viking and I’m the smaller Viking.”

Snyman, a two-time World Cup winner, made an immediate impression with his debut against Benetton in the Vodacom URC. Porter highlighted Snyman’s rugby intelligence and physical presence as crucial for Leinster’s pack.

“He has an incredible rugby IQ, he’s incredibly smart and a bright rugby player as well. He is bringing something very special to this team,” said Porter.

“With his physical attributes, that’s a good advantage to us. It adds more beef to the pack.”

Porter also praised Snyman’s offloading ability, a skill honed by his father. “He’s not one of those players to shove the ball up the jersey, he can throw it around as well.”

The mutual respect between the two props has set the stage for a dynamic partnership at Leinster, with Porter relishing Snyman’s addition to the team.

“He’s a great bloke on and off the field, and everyone knows how skilful he is,” Porter added.
