One of Ireland rugby’s most experienced and widely respected backs is reportedly on the shopping list of four-time European champions Toulon.
French publication Midi Olympique has suggested that powerhouse centre Bundee Aki has engaged in initial talks with Toulon regarding a potential move from Connacht.
However, Independent.ie has clarified that Aki is actually contracted to the IRFU until 2026. His current deal reportedly includes an extra year’s option exercised by the IRFU, making any deal complex and likely requiring a release fee.

A fixture in Andy Farrell’s Ireland set-up, Aki could nonetheless be tempted by a big-money offer as the 34-year-old nears the twilight of his career.
While the New Zealand-born veteran remains settled in Galway, a French move might align with his ambitions for one last marquee contract.
Toulon are believed to be eager to strengthen their roster, but might face competition from French rivals Biarritz and Aix in pursuit of Aki’s services.
