Former captain Sam Cane has been seen at the All Blacks training camp despite being left out of the squad for the upcoming Test series against England.

Cane, who captained the All Blacks at the 2023 World Cup, was not part of Scott Robertson’s 32-man squad for the two Tests in Dunedin and Auckland.

The loose forward, who will be retiring from Test rugby at the end of the year, has not played since 20 January due to a back injury.

However, the 95-Test veteran was in the camp when the squad assembled in Wellington to prepare for the first Test against England on Saturday.

“Sam Cane’s influence on the group has been of guidance, of care. He’s doing everything to make us better,” All Blacks assistant coach Scott Hansen explained .

“He’s sharing stories, he’s sharing experiences and understanding us as a management group also coming in and connecting with the All Blacks.

“He’s been unreal with his care and guidance with helping us also.”
