Wales head coach Warren Gatland faces several major decisions for the clash against the world champion Springboks at Twickenham on Saturday.

Wales Online reports that the return of 94-cap Liam Williams is a major boost, providing experience that was lacking during the Six Nations.

However, with standout performances from young fullback Cameron Winnett, Gatland must decide whether to move Williams to another position or drop Winnett, whose aerial skills will be crucial against South Africa’s kicking game.

In the backline, Ben Thomas has impressed this season and Gatland appears keen to include him, either at inside centre or flyhalf. Thomas offers creativity but may lack the physicality needed against the Boks. This selection likely comes down to Thomas or incumbent Sam Costelow at No 10.

At scrumhalf, experienced Gareth Davies is favoured despite being dropped during the Six Nations, with Kieran Hardy also vying for the spot. In the second row, injuries and player unavailability mean Ben Carter is likely to start, potentially partnering with Cory Hill, despite Hill’s less competitive playing environment in Japan.

It is understood that Gatland also considers Matthew Screech or moving Taine Plumtree to lock.
